When the devastating floods hit Kathmandu valley during the 2024 monsoon season, the Nagarjun Learning Center immediately mobilized to help. From October 27 to 30, 2024, NLC organized a comprehensive food relief program that reached over 300 families in the hardest-hit communities.
Kathmandu Valley Flood Relief
The floods destroyed homes and livelihoods of many in the marginal communities living along the river slums of Kathmandu valley. These families — already among the most vulnerable — lost everything overnight.

The relief effort was a true community collaboration, bringing together:
- Nagarjun Learning Center — organized and led the relief operation
- The Everest Holiday — provided logistics and support
- Ganesh Simkhada and Bimala Simkhada — Shreejan’s parents, who personally participated in the distribution
- Samjhana Basukala — co-founder of NLC, on the ground throughout the relief effort
- Friends and supporters from around the world — whose donations made the relief possible

On the Ground
Over four days, the team traveled through flood-affected areas, distributing essential food supplies, clean water, and basic necessities to families who had been displaced from their homes. Many families were living in temporary shelters, having lost everything to the rising waters.

Community Response
The response from the local and international community was overwhelming. Donations poured in from NLC supporters across the globe, enabling the team to reach more families than initially planned. Every contribution — no matter how small — made a real difference in the lives of those affected.

Saldum Roofing Help Program
The disaster response did not end in Kathmandu. On January 14, 2025, NLC organized a roofing help program in Saldum-4, Ganga Jamuna for families whose homes were damaged by heavy rain and landslides. The team provided essential roofing materials to help families rebuild and protect themselves from further damage during the winter months.

NLC’s Commitment to Disaster Relief
This flood and landslide relief program demonstrates NLC’s commitment to being there for communities not just through education and healthcare, but in times of crisis. When disaster strikes, NLC responds — because the same families we serve in our learning centers are the ones most affected by natural disasters.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort. Together, we proved that compassion knows no borders.
